BATH SALTS TRIO

Is your inbox inundated with gift guides and flash sales that immediately pull you into a panic followed by a buying hysteria? Tis the season…but holiday cheer is often matched with holiday stress. Rather than fold to the pressures of purchasing presents for your loved ones that insult your bank account, have you considered making gifts this year? Even if you don’t define yourself as a DIYer, crafting something to give your family and friends can be super rewarding and honestly quite fun.

There is something magical about creating a gift with your hands as it offers an opportunity to put love and thought into it. Bath salts are one of my absolute favorite gifts to give because they encourage self-care (which we undoubtedly all need) and can be customized with a variety of bath salts and herbs. Another detail I should mention — if you are interested in DIYing but are unsure of where to begin, bath salts are a wonderful starting point because they are so very simple to make.

Should you find yourself stuck determining the ideal bath salt blend to best suit your gift-receiver, this DIY Bath Salts Trio is a fabulous option because it offers an assortment of bath salts and dried herbs to meet the needs of a variety of skin types and conditions.

UNDERSTANDING THE INGREDIENTS

DEAD SEA SALT

Authentic Dead Sea salt is harvested from the Dead Sea. It offers minerals including: calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sulfates, all of which our body needs and often craves. Dead Sea salt has been used to mitigate skin issues associated with mild to severe dry tissue like acne, psoriasis, and eczema for many years. It has also been acknowledged as a support for cleansing and purifying the skin due its high mineral content.

EPSOM SALT

Epsom salt is a pure mineral compound made of magnesium and sulfate. Magnesium is linked to several body functions and has been found to increase energy, boost blood circulation, and encourage relaxation. When your body begins to ache, or you are feeling mentally depleted, it may be time for an Epsom salt bath.

HIMALAYAN SALT

Himalayan salt is a mineral salt historically mined in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains. The orange/pinkish hue of the salt stems from its trace mineral content including: calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Himalayan salt is considered one of the cleanest salts in the world and is believed to offer the body certain minerals that encourage muscular relaxation. Himalayan Salt could also assist in soothing irritated or itchy skin; it may even help in alleviating bug bites.

SEA SALT

Sea salt comes from the evaporation of seawater with numerous varieties harvested from bodies of water like the Mediterranean Sea and Pacific Ocean. Sea salt eases muscle tension and stimulates circulation, offering relief for those who suffer from overall body pain or stiffness. Sea salt baths may additionally assist in restoring the skin, which is why it has been recommended for those with dry skin conditions, like eczema and psoriasis.

DRIED BOTANICALS

Incorporating dried flowers and herbs in your bath salts adds a beautifully natural aesthetic to the presentation of this trio, in addition to favorable therapeutic properties. I often include calendula flowers for their lymphatic stimulant capabilities, chamomile flowers for their soothing and regenerative attributes, eucalyptus leaves for their antiseptic traits and ability to relieve congestion, lavender flowers for their sleep and calming support, and rose petals for their anti-inflammatory and sedative action.
