ROSE MILK BATH SOAK
I was in the midst of making a batch of my rose milk bath soak the other day when I heard a knock on my front door. A friend of mine was driving through the neighborhood and wanted to pop in to say hello — it was a welcomed surprise! She looked at my rose milk bath soak bottles as I was packaging them up and was so kind to express how adorable they were. She asked if I was selling them because she wanted to give them to her family members as holiday gifts. I explained that rather than purchasing the bath soak from me, she could very easily make them in less than 5 minutes with only a few ingredients. She was hesitant at first, but after walking her through the process, her final response was “That is it?!” as she scooped the rose milk bath soak into glass bottles I found at a local hobby store.
And yes, that is it! If you are interested in creating DIY gifts this year for the holidays, or any other occasion, I highly recommend this beautiful rose milk bath soak recipe. You can put it in cute bottles and tie twine around it, or even add a little notecard on string. Your family and friends will begin to compare you to Martha Stewart when they envision you crafting away in your kitchen. Do not worry, your little secret is safe with me!
MAKING A ROSE MILK BATH SOAK
In a mixing bowl, stir together 2 cups of organic coconut milk powder, 1 cup of epsom salt, and 1/2 cup of baking soda. Add in 3 tablespoons of organic dried rose petals and stir to combine. Transfer to an airtight container and label your rose milk bath soak with the contents and date of creation.
UNDERSTANDING THE INGREDIENTS
BAKING SODA (SODIUM BICARBONATE)
Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, is renowned for its ability to soften and relieve irritated skin. The gentle abrasive action of baking soda helps detach dead skin providing a deep cleaning for the pores.
COCONUT MILK POWDER
Coconut milk powder will both cleanse and soothe the skin. Loaded with nutrients, including vitamins C and E, coconut milk powder helps nourish and preserve skin elasticity. It also adds a major hydrating factor that contributes to the silky texture of the bath soak.
Note: While I prefer to use coconut milk powder because of its advantageous properties, there are many who do not like the aroma of coconut or have allergies. If this is the case, simply swap out the coconut milk powder with goat milk powder, whole milk powder (cow’s milk), or rice milk powder.
EPSOM SALT
Epsom salt is a pure mineral compound made of magnesium and sulfate. Magnesium is linked to several body functions and has been found to increase energy, boost blood circulation, and encourage relaxation. When your body begins to ache, or you are feeling mentally depleted, it may be time for an epsom salt bath.
DRIED ROSE PETALS
As an anti-inflammatory ingredient, rose petals may ease irritated skin, which is wonderful for those with sensitivities. Additionally, roses offer emollient and hydrating properties for those with dry and mature skin. Due to their sedative properties, roses may assist in calming the mind and nerves promoting mental repose and relaxation. Try soaking in this DIY before bedtime.
